Client Highlight: Mickeala Bland Foundation
Our Client highlight is the Mickeala Bland Foundation. The Mickeala Bland Foundation arose following the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests, driven by Mickeala Bland's personal experiences. Witnessing the sorrowful gatherings to mourn community members and the pain of fellow protesters deeply moved her. She envisioned a different kind of gathering where Black people could come together not to mourn, but to celebrate and be celebrated. This vision was particularly relevant as it was around the time of Juneteenth, an often-overlooked holiday that was not yet federally recognized. Mickeala's mission expanded to include raising awareness about Juneteenth, educating others, and creating opportunities for celebrating the holiday's significance.
Four years later, Mickeala is motivated by the people who attend the annual Juneteenth Festival (which will be happening this year on Saturday 6/15 at Rabkin Park, Union, NJ). This is a Union-based foundation that provides educational opportunities. The Juneteenth Festival has become stable in Union Township yet still manages to be fresh and innovative year after year. Long-time Union residents, natives, and individuals from out of town travel annually to partake in the celebration. The vision for the festival and other events KB Events LLC organizes in the future is to make a space that promotes learning and fosters unity. It celebrates the richness of Black history, culture, and excellence.
The Mickeala Bland Foundation aligns closely with Sky’s the Limit Ventures' mission and values. We continue to support and balance one another's goals, expertise, and influence, which has been mutually beneficial. This collaboration not only enhances our ability to deliver impactful services but also strengthens our reputation and credibility within the community.
